Message from Councillor Reid – Member for Children and Young People
As Executive Member for Early Years, Children and Young People I am excited to introduce some of the work we have been doing that positively impacts not only the children and young people of Manchester, but also the wider community and our key partnerships across the city. We believe Manchester is a place where children matter, are heard, listened to and can shape – as well as benefit from – the opportunities a successful and dynamic city offers.
The Children’s Directorate of Manchester City Council draws on people and organisations from across the city, the region, and nationally to work together, with children and their families. We do this by:
- Listening to children and their families and our workforce to understand their diverse viewpoints and lived experiences.
- Challenging inequality and promoting equity.
- Ensuring children and families experience interactions with the directorate which are engaging, respectful, transparent, proportionate and responsive.
- Providing a joined-up team around the child and family.
- Continuing to maximise any additional funding opportunities to develop our staff and make best use of the resources we have.
- Ensuring everything we do is informed by Our Manchester Behaviours and adopting a Children’s Rights approach.
This role requires a strong focus on tackling the challenges we face and working with the members and executive and key partnerships in early years, schools and colleges, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, health and Greater Manchester Police.
